Building Business Applications with Visual Modeling

Abstract

Decision Model and Notation (DMN) is a powerful standard that allows non-technical users to create executable decision models. Once the models are published, other systems can invoke those decisions and benefit from the business logic contained by the models. When used in combination with a business-friendly execution engine, it enables knowledge workers to build business applications easily.

This webinar presents a simple example to illustrate this use case. Responding to a Decision Management Community Challenge, Nick Broom from Blue Powder Consultancy used the Trisotech DMN Modeler along with Microsoft Flow and Power Apps to rapidly develop a business application. The challenge instruction was to create an implementation of a decision table to determine the appropriate usage fees for a city’s recreational facilities based on predetermined business rules. In less than an hour, Nick was able to create a visual decision model that supported the instructed decision logic, make it executable with cloud publishing, and get it to work in an application that produced real results.

In this webinar, you will learn:

  • How visual decision modeling captures decision requirements, business rules, and decision logic
  • How it integrates with other business-friendly tools readily available to most corporations’ knowledge workers
  • How a functional application can be built without development resources
  • Why visual modeling empowers business users while reducing time-to-market, improving customer service, and increasing revenues
